There are four known species of Plasmodium which can infect human being, nameli P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, and P. ovale. They differ in mode of transmission, clinical manifestation, response to drug and immune response of the infected person. All this differences indicate that there is a species - specificity of the plasmodium parasite. Therefor, it is very important to identify the species of the parasite which cause malaria in an endemic area.
