Edith Penrose loved the rough and tumble of intellectual exchange and the sharing of ideas. No one who had experienced her personal warmth, the acuteness of her intellect and her impatience with foolishness could remain unaffected by her. Edith had a wonderful sense of humor, loved a gin and tonic, and enjoyed her friends. To some, her assertive personality was prickly; she was a stickler for accurate expression and did not suffer fools gladly. Nonrobust dinner guests could be rendered defenceless when confronted by a barrage of penetrating questions.
