Isi artikelThe tension control for a hot strip mill, which uses an assistant mechanism called a looper, can be treated as a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system to improve the control performance. On the other hand, to cope with variations and uncertainty of the plant, there are strong demands not only for the controller to be robust, but also for the controller's parameter tuning to be easy. To satisfy these requirements, we propose a tension control method based on the concept of the coefficient diagram method (CDM). This achieves sufficiently high performance with systematic design and easy tuning. The method's efficiency is shown by application results for actual systems.
