Isi artikelGPS (Global Positioning System) is the most popular satellite positioning system in the world at present. This paper presents a new detection method of traffic condition based on GPS technology according to analysis of the development of GPS and the current detection methods of traffic condition. With this method we can easily get the traveling time, the instantaneous speed of vehicles and driveway occupancy, and we also can obtain the speed distribution function by fitting short-term continuous speed and obtain time mean velocity by integrating speed distribution function. While the traffic volume is calculated by mean velocity. This method realizes real-time detection of traffic condition. It is important to city traffic guiding and control and is necessary to the realization of intelligent transportation system.
