The air-conditioning system is a machine operated based on the vapor compression cycle. Due to the thermodynamic and the fluid mechanical interactions among the components, the overall system exhibits a complicated dynamic behavior. Understanding the system dynamics is not only crucial for sizing the respective components to achieve energy efficiency and enhance cooling performance, but also plays an important role in devising a control law for modulating the actuation elements to match the thermal load and the operating condition. In this paper, we first use the so-called “pseudo bond-graph” to construct models for each of the components in the air-conditioning system. The component models are then assembled together based on the causality implication to form the overall system model. To confirm the validity of this model, specific scenarios for numerical simulation are considered. The simulations generate the steady-state and the transient responses of the state variables such as the superheat temperature, the evaporator pressure, the condenser pressure, and so on
