Isi artikel
A seismic-excited building control system is critical, since each interstorey drift is required to be strictly within a prescribed bound despite earthquake excitation, otherwise the building may collapse. This paper describes the design of such a building control system which ensures (if a design solution exists) that each interstorey drift is maintained within the bound, and hence the building does not collapse, under earthquake excitation. All the possible earthquake signals are modelled as input functions restricted in the two norms of their magnitude and their rate of change. Having many objectives among which there may be conflicts, the design problem is formulated using the method of inequalities. A numerical example of a building control system is given, demonstrating that the framework used here facilitates a realistic formulation of the problem and consequently are in practice suitable for designing critical systems.
