Abstract
Multinational firms frequently utilize joint venture partnerships with local firms as a competitive strategy for internationalization to overcome its
“liability of foreignness” . Using qualitative data from director perspective and with combination of data collection methods (triangulation) consisting of
interview, internal document, participative observation, the researcher identifies several factors of JV failure and test for the influences. In this thesis, the researcher seeks to elaborate the major managerial differences between the
Singapore and Indonesia, by providing theories and facts together with understanding of the four dimensions affecting business. The researcher
examines the operational style and managerial structure of the organization in order to find out how the success factors influences the JV performances. A key finding is that the cultural diversity become a big challenge to align each parent interest. The researcher compares and contrasts predictor of termination due to the failure due to those JV. The overall conclusion highlight
implication for understanding national culture before deciding to establish JV with foreign parent. It has been recognized that one of the most critical reasons for failures of joint venture in their international business practices is the lack
of capability in handling the existing cultural differences. An increase in attention is called for to have better understanding of respective cultures as
well as the influence of culture on managerial and business styles of all countries. Hopefully, this thesis might be able to offer better understanding to
