Isi artikelThe linguistic study of language in the classroom is a branch of discourse analysis. It is perhaps the best known branch, because it was featured in some of the early work.’ It has relevance to a number of educational problems, and can be an instrument of clarification if it is developed appropriately. The process of learning and teaching is realised through language to a significant extent, and can be studied. The professional routines of teachers and their styles and attitudes can be studied, and various methods of teaching can be compared and evaluated. Language learning and teaching is a special case because the target skill can also be the means used to achieve the target; it is especially interesting.
