Isi artikel
The major problems faced in dams conservation in Indonesia are the diminution of water supply and the high sedimentation rate. The problems are caused by environmental changes and the condition of community at catchment area of the dams. People empowerment around the dams is one of the ways to conserve the dams and their infrastructures. It is aimed to enhance the dams’ preservation and the hydrology through people’s role around the dams. The methods used in this programme were observation, questionnaire, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Focus Discussion Group (FGD), Comparative Study and Training. The result showed that the people around the dams were enthusiastic and more aware of the importance of the dams conservation. As a result, people associations named Sela Tirta in Gembong village and Giri Makmur Rawa Indah in Sitiluhur village were formed. Trainings and comparative study were conducted to increase people’s perspective. Fruit plants planting conducted at people’s properties of around the dams was aimed to descrease sedimentation rate as well as improve people’s wealth
