This is the second of two issues devoted to the topic of interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives for describing, explaining, and predicting the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of small groups. The first issue appeared in February 2004. Our goal in this special issue is to capitalize on the theoretical advances made over the last 50 years by synthesizing and integrating models and theories of small groups proposed by various disciplines into a set of general theoretical perspectives. This special issue represents the first-ever attempt to assess, synthesize, integrate, and evaluate the body of theory on small groups across disciplinary boundaries. Articles that describe seven theoretical perspectives appear across the two issues of Small Group Research devoted to this topic. Each
