Abstract
The principal factors justifying and those facilitating the integration of environmental health activities with a public health service in the African region are examined. As in other developing countries, the region's environmental health problems relate problems that may be solved by rational and balanced development. Such development is dependent on the coordination of different aspects of environmental health - water supply, collection and disposal of excreta and refuse, air and water pollution control of insect, rodents, and other disease vectors, food inspection, housing and town planning, etc. by national administrators. National authorities are therefore urged to initiate the changes in ideas and institutions (particularly those involved in the training of personnel)necessary to an integration of all public health activities.
