Isi artikelThe question of how much cloze scores are affected by scrambled sentence order has been little investigated. Carver (1975-76), referring to the deficiency of traditional readability formulas, has stated that scrambling sentence order would probably have little effect on cloze scores. The main effect of the treatment of sequential (ordinary) cloze vs. scrambled cloze was found to be significant by Chihara, Oller, Weaver and Chavez-~ller (1977). The question of scrambled sentence order, however, has not been thoroughly discussed in their study. The present research, by applying the theory of inter-sentential cohesion developed by Halliday and Hasan (1976)2, attempts to shed new light on some problem regarding cloze difficulty.
