The duties and responsibilities of the Director of Rural Health Centres, Ministry of Health, Cairo, Egypt, are described. The director is in charge of the administration of both the health centres and rural health units. Integrated services of a basic nature are offered in health education, sanitation, maternal and child health care and family planning, school health services, and preventive and curative medicine. Each centre has an inpatient facility of about 20 beds. The administrator is in charge of policymaking and planning. Statistical disease surveillance, technical advice, coordination with other services, designing field studies for problem-solving, and manpower planning and training are all part of the director's functions. Local training centres are set up by local governments. The Egyptian national rural health policy dand various programmes of rural development training centres are outlined. |
