Isi artikelThe aim of this qualitative research was to know whether the teaching units of social sciences with competence - based curriculum approach is applicable to attain its competences. Participants were 4 teachers, 16 students and 4 headmasters of elementary schools. The instrument for data collection were observation, teacher's dairy, and in - depth interview. The teaching model, being tried - out consists of 21 teaching units using competence - based curriculum approach derived from 4 models, i. e. analysis of concept, creative thinking, experiential learning, and group inquiry. Result reveals that 18 units of teaching are assumed to be applicable for the students with a few revision. Essentally, the models of teachig could attain the goals of teaching such as students becoming more active - creative, stimulating life - skills, creating enjoyable learning climate, though not yet optimal. The constraining factors obstructing optimal results are discussed.
