" It describes a sample of literature selected from the larger mass of documentation identified and examined during the course of this study. The sources were: a search of approximately 100 different indexing/abstracting journals and bibliographies; literature provided or suggested by health specialists in the USA and abroad; special computer searches using the MEDLARS system of the National Library of Medicine and the Excerpta Medica automated Biomedical Data Bank; and direct searching of the contents of specific journals considered to be most important in the field of health services research. Non-English documents are annotated in English. Author and subject indexes are included. There are 521 annotated references listed under the following headings: (1)economics and planning; (2)health care services; (3)manpower and training; (4)methodology and technology; and (5) bibliographies and services.
