The Internet, often abbreviated to the Net, has often been described as the biggest communications revolution since the advent of the printed book, yet up until not too long ago it was a secretive field enjoyed - and jealously guarded - by a few select individuals. These days, however, things have changed for the better, and the Net is now a thriving community with many millions of people exchanging information, ideas, and opinions. The development of easy connections, more user-friendly software, and cheaper access have opened up the 'information superhighway' to everyone. With the availability of Internet, professional development goes global. The Internet connects people in ways we never thought possible. Through the medium of networking and telecommunications technologies, professional developers help facilitate teachers all around the world to interact and share their experience in teaching as well as the up to date methods of teaching, approaches, and techniques. Long distance education for professional development is mushrooming, and it can be a great opportunity for teachers all over the world to update and develop themselves without leaving the teaching. Time and distance constraints for not being physically in a classroom need no longer be impede professional development. The question that we should ask ourselves: are we ready?
