Isi artikelThis article is based on a research was aimed at identifying the effectiveness of balance demonstration and conventional method in learning addition and subtraction operations as well as identifying the retention power of both methods. The research was an experiment one using randomized control group with pre-test, post-test, and re-post-test design. The sample consisted of students in the first year from two different elementary schools, namely SD N 03 and 04 Srondol, Banyumanik Semarang. Data was analyzed by comparing means of paired samples t-Test using SPSS 11.0 Program for Windows. Research results indicated that there was a significant difference in effectiveness between methods of addition and subtraction operations teaching (t = 1,196; a = 0.05; df = 34) with conventional method being higher than balance demonstration one (mean: 14,0556 > 13,1111).
