Isi artikelThis study evaluated the students’ and teachers’ activities in science teaching at elementary school. Data were collected on April 12th – May 8 th , 1999, by observing 51 elementary school teachers of fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grades chosen using a proportional random sampling in the region of Tegal, while they were teaching science. The study revealed: (1) the students’ and teachers’ activities conformed with the learning teaching processes: apperception, delivering materials, exercises, drawing conclusions, and evaluation. (2) The degree of students’ and teachers’ activities were respectively sufficient and nearly sufficient. (3) The degree of students’ activities was determined by students’ participation in preparing the lessons, desires to study creatively, courages in expressing ideas and interests, working ability according to the procedures as well as thinking inductively and deductively. (4) The degree of teachers’ activities was determined by the teachers’ decisions to give the student opportunities to take part in various learning-teaching activities; the teachers’ advice to the students to be active, creative, and interactive in groups; use of various learning resources; giving feedback of learning results; and evaluation of learning results by various ways.
