Employing action research strategy, this study focused on the application of constructivistic-based instruction in teaching mathematics in elementary schools, especially the teaching of numerical sequence and order. The objectives of the study are to identify common errors of students in learning numerical sequence and order, to identify factors causing the recurrent of those errors, and to identify instructional strategy which will assist students in learning numerical sequence and order. Sample of the study is five students of grade III SDN Kutoharjo II Rembang who have the highest number of errors on numerical sequence and order indicated in the pre-test. After three sequential lessons of active participation in learning using numerical demonstration tools, students difficulties in telling number verbally, writing number in dictation, sequencing and ordering number, and filling in number based on its order can be reduced. The study concludes that constructivistic-based instruction increases students motivation, understanding, and achievement in learning mathematics, especially on the topic of numerical sequence.
