This article discusses the results of a study concerning the development of tutorial devices for natural sciences. Two kind of tutorial devices were developed to help the Diploma II Elementary Teacher Training students improve their independence level in studying science materials. The development of these devices were based on the Four-D model: defining, designing, developing, and distributing. The study, however, did not include the distributing level. At the defining level the study objectives were formulated. At the designing level choices were made on criterion tests, the media and the format used, as will as the initial design of tutorial devices. At the developing level modifications of the prototypes of the tutorial devices were made. The cooperative learning model was used in implementing the tutorial devices.
