Seaweeds are important for habitat preservation in supporting the life cycle of certaint fishes, clamps, crabs, shrimps, prawns and other economically beneficial natural resources. Seaweeds is used for food and pharmaceutical substances. Fishermen in Kelapa island have planted seaweeds traditionally for more than 10 years. In the study some physical and chemical characters of the seashore of Kelapa island were analysed. The result of the study showed that there were seven locations inappropriate for planting seaweeds based on physicals and chemicals characters. The other three locations were sufficient for planting seaweeds. The accurate position for seaweeds aquaculture were defined by GIS method using the thematic map.
