Isi artikelThe influence of polyamine-spermidine application on quality and shelflife of tomato fruit were investigated. Spermidine 1mM was applied to tomato fruits, cultivar Mitra, Intan and Pointed on immature-green (18 days after anthesis) and mature-green (25 days after anthesis). On breaker stage, the fruits were harvested and strored at room temperature (26-280C). Color development, firmness, weight loss and respiration rate were determined periodically throughout the storage periode. Spermidine, sprayed on tomato fruits, delayed ripening and senescence. Aplication of spermidine on immature-green and mature-green stages retarded peel color change, fruits softening, weight loss and respiration rate compared to control. Application on immature-green stage was not significantly different from application on mature-green stage. Spermidine application into tomatoes prolonged the delay in ripening 6 days compared with control. Tomato fruits cv. Pointed more slowly 4 days than cv. Intan, and it have prolonged keeping qualities as shown by the inhibition in peel color index development and in fruit softening. Spermidine application was better in retarding respiration rate on cv. Intan and Pointed rather than cv. Mitra.
