In Indonesia, there are two systems of homegardening, depending on the agroclimatic conditions, namely wet area and semi - arid area. The component and structure of both systems are different from each other. In principle, the main purpose of these systems are similar, that is for optimizing the land utilization. Based on observation, homegardens have some benefits such as cultural sociological aspect, economical and optimization of land utilization, biodiversity, ex - situ germplasm conservation etc. In many cases, there have been some more efforts being developed in the homegardens, such as integrated efforts in fresh water fishery, husbandry as well agronomy. The homegarden pattem in wet areas are more variable than in semi - arid areas. The main reason for the differences is due among others to the availability of water as the limiting factor.
