Isi artikel
The scientific study of Indonesian society or a given social phenomenon in the Indonesian archipelago requires the application of sociological theory to the investigation and explanation of the relevant social realities. Given the social realities in the Indonesian archipelago, it is practically imperative to be mindful of relevance of at least four sociological concepts, namely the society (Indonesian society and the more limited territorially based ethnic societies), the nation (the new Indonesian nation, the different racial groupings, and the older ethnic nations), the state (the Republic of Indonesian and its institutionalization), and the religious community (the dominant Islamic religious community and the other religious communities). The relevant social xealities grow and develop, causing the necessity to make adaptations among the relevant social phenomena. In the study of indonesian society preference is given to theories of integration, especially Parsonian theory, rather than theories of conflicts because Indonesian society is striving for stability and integration while social conflict can also be explained with reference to theories of integration. It is the duty of Indonesian social scientists to apply social science knowledge in the furhter development of Indonesian society.
