Isi artikel
This article examined Indonesian agricultural standing amongst industrialization and free-trade as well as the theoretical base for formulizing policies to find the model for agriculture in the future. Several theories on industrialization in developing countries in relation to free trade were analized. Special emphasis was put on R. Drebish's work on the necessity of developing industrialization utilizing the Import Substitution Industry (ISI) model for infant industry. Industrialization target and agriculture optimism needed for maintaining industries based on Dos Santos' Dependency theory were also discussed. In the era of free trade developing countries have greater opportunities to export their commodities compared to developed countries as seen in the high standards set by these developed countries to boost their local market. This article also showed that industrialization and free trade challenges could be met by an agriculture that is technological sound and market oriented. The process of structural transformation through industrialization is aimed not only at increasing industrial market but also on improving industrial-culture within all sectors of the economy.
