Isi artikelCiting recent positive developments in an oil- and petrochemicals-oriented part of the State of Texas, the authors maintain that cooperation at the local and regional levels by members of the labor, management, and academic communities holds more promise for easing structural adjustment-while promoting national economic efficiency-than would a national industrial policy that ignores the dynamics of the marketplace. Bernard L. Weinstein is director and Harold T. Gross is assistant director of the Center for Enterprising at Southern Methodist University. Previously they were associated with the John Gray Institute, a private regional economic development organization in Beaumont, Texas-Dr. Weinstein as an assistant director and Dr. Gross as an economist. Both have written a number of articles and monographs on economic developement and regional economic change, and they are the co-authors of Regional Growth and Decline in the United States.
