Although violence against women has been a global issue, in Indonesia this issue has not got enough attention yet. This is shown by ratifying only one among other international conventions that protect women from all forms of violence and discrimination. Consequently, there are many violence against women cases handled inappropriately or even not reported at all. Our penal code contains articles that deal with violent crimes against women but not all forms of the crimes. Therefore, many cases of the crimes cannot be dealt with legally. To prevent this, it is necessary to enact bills on violent against women, to provide special protection for women, to form a special institution that can receive claims from public, provide public education for changing public perception, give trainings for law enforcement officers, empower government organisations or non government ones that care for these problems.
