This article discusses the program on television, its characteristics, its benefits and its effects towards the audiences, and the possibility to use the programs to educate the people in Indonesia. In the last ten years, Indonesia has entered the new era in the television world. The numbers of television stations has increased rapidly and consequently the programs offered are also booming. Each station tries to attract as many viewers as possible. Ratings become important in deciding which programs should be offered to the viewers. Therefore, television stations run various programs with aiming at attracting a large number of viewrs. In doing so, some times moral values have to be put aside. As a consequence, the role of the government in providing the regulation to make sure that the programs are appropriate for the Indonesian audiences is crucial.
