Although the Spanish article (el, la, los, las, un, una, unos, unas, lo) has a brief form and few variations, its functions and usage are quite complicated. The Spanish article has its independent theory for use and omission. This essay examines various factors that influence the use and omission of the article with the collocation of the noun. The factors involved are quite subtle and complicated, but we can induce some common criteria, for instance, grammar and denotation (the position of subject and verb, the variations of noun, verb, and modifier), subjective evaluation, writing styles, etc. With this theoretical foundation, the essay investigates language and reality through the illustration and comparison of sample sentences. We will find that the use and omission of the article are closely related to people's thinking and emotions.
