Isi artikel
The interaction of new technology with both the social and cultural milieus sometimes leads to developments that are far removed from the original goals of the technical elements themselves, says the author. He believes that the "Information Age" holds the proise for large-scale benefits, but that these will not come overnight. A professor of the history of technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Melvin Kranzberg is the principal founder of the Society for the History of Technology. He also serves as a member of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Advisory Council and chairs NASA's History Advisory Committee. This article is abridged from a chapter in the book Information Technologies and Social Transformation.
