In what is described as a "major structural change," the U.S. economy has created more than 30 million additional jobs that have been filled by women since World War II, including jobs in business and the professions, science and technology, and the service sector, according to the President's Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). The Council of Economic Advisers is a presidentially appointed group responsible for analyzing the U.S. economy, for appraising the government's economic policies and programs and for advising the President on econoic developments and recommending policies for growth and stability. This article is taken from a chapter in 1987 Economic Report of the President, which is prepared by te CEA.
