Isi artikelTraditional woek values in the United States which linked personal identity with Job status and relied heavily on economic incentives for motivation-are fast giving away to a new set of values that emphasize leisure, individual self-fulfillment, and work that is more interesting and less routine, says the author, a well-known U.S. expert on psychological research. At the same time, he reports that vastly larger numers of people-particularly women-want to become paid jobholders. Dealing with this expanding labor force will be a central problem of the 1980s, he believes. Daniel Yankelovich is president of Yankelovich, Skelly and White, a firm specializing in market and attitudinal research. He has written five books and numerous articles on various broad aspects of psychology.
