The forth coming round of multilateral trade negotiations will reflect the growing importance of develoing countries in numerous ways, explains an official of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). This interview was conducted by Steward W. Ramsey editor-in-chief of Economic Impact. Charles H. Blum has been Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Multilateral Trade Negotiations since Seoptember 1985. He earlier served with the Office of the USTR as Assistant rade Representative for Industrial and Energy Trade Policy and as director for Steel Trade Policy. In these positions, he has participated in multilateral meeting of the General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade (GATT), including the recent GATT preparatory talks in Punta del Este, Uruguay, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
