Isi artikel
Although a scientific revolution is causing mankind to reexamine its fundamental beliefs, economics is lagging behind because of its failure to keep up with the evolutionary process, writes Dr. Carl Madden. One result, he adds, is that the necesssary tasks of redefining capitalism is falling largely to new forces outside the sphere of traditional economics. Educated at the University of Virginia, Dr. Madden was an information official at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York prior to his appointment as dean of business administration at Lehigh University in 1960. Since 1963 he has been chief economist for the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, which is usually considered a champion of business conservatism but is nonetheless a place where a number of progressive economic ideas have been made welcome. Recently, Dr. Madden explained to an interviewer that he sees his role in part as translating questions about social responsibility in business into 'measurements and evaluations of benefits and costs not only for business but for society as a whole'.
