Isi artikel
It is in this very same city of Rome that I gave my first talk at an international congress, 44 years ago in 1961, on The Pool of Harmful Genes in Human Populations (Fraser 1962a), a topic subsumed within that of present subject, Human Genetics Today: Hopes and Risks, a vast panorama which retraces the entire history of the development of our human species as documented in the common heritage of our human genome in all diverse, and yet harmonious, complexity. In this sort talk, in conformity with the written presentation of the aims of this conference, I shall confine myself mainly to the perspective of health, leaving aside many other aspects of human genectics, this leads to the corollary that term human genectics will be largely interchangeable with that of genetic (or genomic) medicine.
