The recent war in Iraq speaks volumes, after 6 years, dissent and bloodshed is still continuing. War is not the answer to trans-border disputes, no matter what the offending nation is involved in. Disputes have to be resolved by other methods, and for crossborder disputes, mediation or negotiation may be the better choice. Why mediation or negotiation? In this paper, the two terms are used interchangeably, as both share a common agenda, that of trying to reconcile the differences of two parties, without imposing any of their own beliefs, but steering the parties toward the common good. Neither one will be winner or loser, both will be winners and losers in their own right. The following discussion shows the reason why mediation will be a better alternative than other drastic measures in resolving trans-border conflicts. |
