| The use of nuclear energy for the purpose of peace, give positive impact for people such as in medical treatment, agriculture, research, and industry. Indonesia is one of many countries that use nuclear technology for peace which is a part of Indonesian development in many sectors. On the other side the using of nuclear energy also have negative impact for human and the environment for example is the possibility of over doses radiation, and the radionuclides that may be spread and cause the environmental damage. As we know that in international environmental law there is a general principle that states should ensure the development and use of their natural resources do not caused environmental damage and also should underlying with sustainable development. Indonesia has the Nuclear Energy Act number 10, 1997 which is regulating the using of nuclear energy in Indonesia. In Fulfilling its safety and security role, one of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) duty is controlling states that use nuclear energy. In this manner, Indonesia should have agreement with IAEA to make sure the safety and security, for using nuclear energy. This paper will talk about regulating nuclear activities for peace purposes internationally and nationally, connecting with the protection to the environment which is a part of sustainable development. |
