The Agriculture Extension and Communication Study Program of Universitas Terbuka started to implement a comprehensive examination on 2005.2 academic year. The examination consists of compulsary essay test and optional paper writing. In contrast, on 2006.1 academic year, the examination only consisted of essay test. The objectives of this research are to investigate the correlation between students’ characteristics and perceptions on the comprehensive examination. Exploratoiy research design was used while survey method were used to collect data. Population of this study were students who take comprehensive examination on academic year 2005.2 and 2006.1. The samples were selected from three regional centers of Universitas Terbuka, i.e. Ben gkulu, Semarang and Pontianak. Data were analysed by using Mann-Whitney (U-test) and correlation Rank Spearman test. The results show that there is no significant differences between students’ perceptions on comprehensive examination on 2005.2 and 2006.1 academic year. On academic year 2005.2, students’ age has significant correlation with students’ perceptions on accessibility of learning guide via internet. On academic year 2006.1, students’ age has significant correlation with students’ perceptions on acessibility of learning guide in regional centers and language used. The implication of this study is the study program must socialize intensively comprehensive examination program to the students.
