Isi artikel
If we measure "the value of the Japanese" in terms of per capita gross domestic product, we find that the formerly inflated figure has now been deflated somewhat, thanks to strenuous restructuring efforts by companies as well as massive intervention in the foreign exchange market by the government, which has held down the value of the yen. As a result, the economy has finally pulled out of its protracted slimp. Most people have not noticed, however, that the monetary value of the Japanese individual has fallen in international comparison, This is because we are accustomed to measuring comparative values using the market exchange rate of the yen against the dollar, and these days both the yen and the dollar are weak.
