Isi artikelWith the progress of the declining birthrate and aging, there are rising concerns about maintenance of the social security system, trasfer of skills and technique to the next generations, and decrease of the labor force in Japan. Against this background, securing employment opportunities for older people is recognized as an important, urgent social issue in recent years. What will probably play a major role in securing employment opportunities for older people is the framework for continued employment in which workers will be employed for a longer period at a company that they have been working for. For many years in Japan, a law called the Act Concerning Stabilization of Employment of Older Persons has had a significant impact on firms' mechanisms for continued employment.
