Isi artikel
Dicourses about the relationship between the individual and society are at the core of a culture. In Habits of the Heart (1985), Robert Bellah, Richard Madsen, Williams Sullivan, Ann Swindler and Steven Tipton defend the view that the relationship between the individual and society in the United States is largely individualistic. In this article we defend the thesis that this relationship is approached in a mainly collectivist way in Flanders. Individualism is present in Flanders. Indivindualism is present in Flanders as a sort of ‘second languange’. A distinction is made between two forms of individualism. The first, utilitarian individualism, is a remnat of traditional bourgeois ethics and liberal ideology.
