Isi artikelThis experiment was carried out to investigate insoluble monolayer behaviour on a liquid substrate, i.e. how insoluble fatty acid molecules interact with the surface of a liquid substrate. The result of the experiment showed that steanc acid (C17H~COOH) interacted with the substrate much simpler than myristic acids (C13H27C00H) did. This reflected that an insoluble chemical substance with longer hydrocarbon chain has a strong coherent property between their hydrocarbon chains, which make fatty acids do not separate completely and this results in surface pressure remaining low. Surface pressure will rise rapidly when the molecules become tighily packed together. Stearic acid reached the area occupied per molecule of 21.5 A2, whereas mynstic acid molecule occupied a larger area of about 45.0 A2 at a transition phase. In this phase the molecules start arranging themselves to become more tightly packed together. Then at a certain point (35.0 A2 molecule4), the line rises sharply and the area occupied per mol (A) becomes almost constant. It means that the molecules have already been tighily packed.
