Isi artikelTranslation as an interdisciplinary science is an activity of enormous importance in the modern world and it is affordable one for most people in transforming scientific and technological matters. Communicative translation, as Newmark suggests, attempts to render the exact contextual meaning of the orginal in such a way to meet the readership of the target language. To meet that textual equivalence and properties of audience design as well as the purpose of the translation itself, a translator prompts to make‘shift’. The aim of this research plan is to reveal translating moves and behavior made by the translator through the transitivity meaning of language. This paper also studies the causes of the moves and tries to reveal the implication of those shifts to translation. The source of data is taken from an English medical textbook and its translation in bahasa Indonesia. The language theory applied to study both source and target texts is based on functional grammar proposed by Halliday. The conclusion is that, shifting in translation seems iressitable due to the uniqueness of each language and culture of both parties mediated by translation activity.
