The Fox and Westbrook volume assembles essays that consider a contemporary practice of research (moral inquiry) in a wide range of academic disciplines. Both books focus on the United States. Both take Dewey seriously (though not uncritically) as an important though not exclusive point of reference. And both are in the main optimistic, or at least not pessimistic, about the prospects for education and learning in America.
