Isi artikel
This article articulates the central role that conflict and aggression play in the development of the small group. In this context, the definition of aggression is expanded to include not only destructive aspects but also prosocial and functional manifestations of aggression that can foster the growth of the individual as well as the group as a whole. Based on the work of Melanie Klein, a theory is proposed of how projective processes operate in a small group with respect to feelings of anger and aggression; how aggression unfolds in the group as a consequence of these defensive processes; and how group members can better understand, undo, and transforn the dysfunctional hold aggression can have on the group so that the group's growth can be promoted.
