Depression is the population is a common problem. It's prevalence is about 15% and more common in female patients. Incidence rate of depression in the primary care is about 10% and 25% in inpatients. Depression in elderly people is approximately has similar magnitude but the incidence rate are depended on the society, culture, race and gender. Depression in the elderly have more complex than depression in the younger age. Some biological factor, physical, psychological and social factor are predisposition for depression in elderly people. The aging process changed the central nervous system actuvity, especially the cathecolamine neurotransmitter. As a clinician we have to aware of the synptom of depression in the elderly, because of the somatic symptom may predominate the clinical symptom of geriatris depression.
