Objective : To evaluate the primary care physician's (PCPs) knowledge, attitude and clinical behaviour in managing patients with BPH guideline of indonesian urology association. Material and Method : The mailing included the cover letter, a questionaire consisting of a 10 questions survey, a survey instrument and a post-paid envelope. The 10 questions survey was validates according to the BPH guidelines by Indonesian Urology Association (IUA). PCPs who worj in district health office and are registered in the district health office of Indonesian Health Ministry in Bandung, were selected as respondents. Result : The sampled primary care physicians working in 71 district health office 75% responded. The BPH guideline was unknown to 83% of the respondents, published by the indonesian Urology Association, although 88% of PCP's knew about the symptoms of BPH, only 32% heard about an intrenational prostate symptome score. However, only 13% reported to apply this symptoms score. Regarding to examination mandatory, according to the guideline, 64% of PCPs reported to perform a digital rectal examination, and 47% reported to order an urinalysis test. The recommended test such as PSA and serum creatinine level was only asked by 24% and 60% respectively. Onli 21% of the PCPs knew about uroflowmetry, but never ordered this test. For treating BPH, 47% of PCPs reported using a blocker and @% using finasteride. Refferal was conducted by PCPs mostly because of urinary retention and hematuria. Referral of patients to an urologist was done by 70% of PCPs, the others referred to a general surgeon and general internist. Conclusion : Although PCPs play a role up to certain extent in the diagnosis and managemant of BPH, most of them seem not interested in looking for reference.
