Isi artikelcarbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of carbonaceous materials (fuel or other carbon containing materials). CO poisoning is the emminent cause of accidental deaths in many countries, with prime cause being the usage of engine in close chamber, fire and gas stoves. CO toxicity comes from it's ability to bind strongly with hemoglobin, ultimately causing hipoxia in the target organs (primarily brain and heart). The clinical manifestations of CO intoxication are diverse and easily confused with those of other ilnesses. Delayed or missed diagnosis usually brings ominous result, not only to the patient but also the cohabitants. The diagnosis of CO intoxication lies heavily to the use of co-oximetry which determines the level of COHb in blood samples. The heaviest complication of CO intoxication is the delayed manifestations of neurologic sequelae (ataxia, cognitive impairment, amnesia), which often unrecognized by the physician. The prognosis of CO intoxication becomes much better if hiperbaric oxygen chamber therapy is instituted early. We reported a family of 5 person presented with acute CO intoxication, where 3 of them experienced cardiac insults due to the intoxication.
