The paper discusses the ongoing fertility transition in China with regard to population growth and fertility decline, fertility policy as measured by policy fertility, as wel as the impact of low fertility on population ageing, gender equality, sex ratio of the newborns, infant deaths, and labor supply. It indicates that rapid population growth is coming to an end in China after dominating the country's population dynamic for several hundred years.
