The causes of the lowest-low fertility that characterizes the Republic of Korea are investigated. Sweeping structural reform measures in conjunction with the effects of the 1997 financial crisis have transformed the labor market. In addition to the material changes that have occurred, the consciousness and outlook of Korean people have also undergone a fundamental shift.
